2027: LAWMAKER MOBILISES GRASSROOTS SUPPORT FOR TINUBU’S RE-ELECTION IN IBADAN

A member of the House of Representatives, Akin Alabi, on Saturday stepped up early mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, rallying grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election through a structured volunteer network launched in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Alabi, who represents Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency and chairs the House Committee on Works, unveiled the “Friends of Akin Alabi for President Tinubu” initiative, attracting thousands of supporters ahead of the next electoral cycle.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists in Abuja by his media team.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments and behind-the-scenes mobilisation following the 2023 elections, as key figures within the All Progressives Congress move to consolidate support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
At the Ibadan event, no fewer than 1,340 volunteers were mobilised in the first phase of the initiative, while over 2,000 had already been registered, with plans to scale up to 20,000 across communities within and beyond the constituency.
Addressing supporters, Alabi emphasised the strategic focus of the movement, stressing the importance of structure over symbolism.
“My goal is to build one of the most formidable campaign structures in support of President Tinubu’s re-election — not a ceremonial one, but a working network rooted in wards and communities,” he said.
“Let me make it clear that today’s launch was only the beginning, and that the movement would continue to grow in size and reach in the weeks ahead. I urge every volunteer present to become an active messenger — to go back to their neighbourhood and speak plainly to people about the direction of the country.
“The reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration are already laying the groundwork for a stronger economy, and Nigerians at the grassroots deserve to hear that message clearly and consistently.”
The lawmaker charged his volunteers to deliver on the mandate.
Alabi’s remarks reflect a long-term political strategy centred on early voter engagement and decentralised campaign structures, a model increasingly embraced within Nigeria’s evolving electoral landscape.
In his keynote address, the convener of the movement and close associate of the lawmaker, Tosin Oluwadara, described the initiative as a people-driven political platform rather than a conventional campaign structure.
Oluwadara characterised the gathering as more than a political event, calling it a declaration of purpose, unity and grassroots commitment.
“Real political strength lies at the grassroots — not on paper, not on social media, but in our communities, in our wards, among our people,” he told the crowd.
He added that the platform was designed as an inclusive network open to supporters regardless of political affiliation, stressing that commitment to Alabi’s leadership and belief in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda remain the key criteria for participation.
The politician urged volunteers to prioritise discipline and consistency, noting that electoral success would depend more on sustained grassroots engagement than on periodic political activities.
Community leaders and stakeholders from Egbeda and Ona-Ara Local Government Areas, who attended the launch, also pledged support for Tinubu’s re-election, lending broader backing to the initiative.
With the first phase completed and plans for expansion underway, the grassroots movement points to a growing trend of early political structuring within the ruling party’s National Assembly caucus, as supporters move to consolidate backing for the President ahead of the official campaign season.
