JIGAWA GOVT WARNS AGAINST FRAUDSTERS DEMANDING FEES FOR RENEWED HOPE PROGRAMME

The Jigawa State Government has alerted the public to be cautious of fraudsters demanding money for registration into the President’s Renewed Hope programme.

Introduced by the Federal Government in February 2024 under President Bola Tinubu, the Renewed Hope programme is designed to support vulnerable citizens and stimulate economic growth, targeting low- and middle-income earners nationwide. The initiative also seeks to empower over 8.8 million Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, focusing on job creation, rural electrification, agriculture, and small business development.

In a statement on Monday in Dutse, the state Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, emphasized that registration for the programme is completely free.

“The registration is free; no payment is required from the public,” Musa said, stressing that any demand for money is against programme guidelines.

The commissioner disclosed that some enumerators had reportedly been charging N500 from individuals attempting to register, which he described as illegal. He urged enumerators to stop collecting fees and called on the public to report anyone attempting to exploit the programme.

“The government launched this programme to improve lives across the state and the country,” Musa added, assuring that the initiative is intended to reach those in need without any financial burden.

He warned that individuals found collecting money for registration would face strict consequences, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated.

Musa also appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities to ensure the programme’s success and confirmed that the registration process is being closely monitored to prevent abuse.

“Interested individuals are encouraged to register for the Renewed Hope programme without paying any fees,” he concluded.
