FORMER APC GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE BINANI DEFECTS TO NDC

Aisha Binani, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election in Adamawa State, has officially joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She was formally received into the party during an event held in Abuja on Friday, where she was presented with her NDC membership card and welcomed by party leaders, including national leader Seriake Dickson.
Speaking at the event, Binani said her decision to join the NDC followed a careful review of the party’s constitution, which she said demonstrates a strong commitment to structured and policy-oriented governance.
The former senator, who represented Adamawa Central, explained that while she recently belonged to another political party, she would not criticise her previous platform. She noted that political decisions are often influenced by changing realities and local dynamics.

Reacting to her defection, Dickson said Binani’s move reflected confidence in the NDC’s vision for a new political direction centred on ideology, service, inclusiveness, and national development.
He also used the occasion to encourage women across Nigeria to embrace the party, describing the NDC as a platform that values the contributions of women and young people in nation-building.
According to Dickson, Binani has been entrusted with a leadership role within the party and will work alongside party officials and stakeholders in Adamawa State to promote unity, strengthen inclusion, and advance the interests of the people.
Her move to the NDC comes roughly nine months after she left the APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
During the 2023 governorship election in Adamawa State, Binani lost to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The election drew widespread attention after Resident Electoral Commissioner Hudu-Yunusa Ari declared her winner during the collation process.
However, the decision was later overturned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which nullified the declaration and suspended Ari.
