Bayo Orebiyi, a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, has been selected as the consensus candidate for the Yewa South Constituency seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly ahead of the party primaries and the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Zonal Information Officer for Yewa Division, Mr. Lateef Akintunde, his emergence followed extensive consultations among key stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Yewa South Local Government Area.

Party leaders and stakeholders were said to have unanimously endorsed the former governor’s aide to represent the party in the upcoming Assembly election.

They described the consensus arrangement as a show of unity and strategic coordination aimed at securing a decisive victory for the party in the constituency during the next general elections.

Speaking on the development, a party leader, Mufutau Ajibola, said the decision to adopt Orebiyi was based on his track record of service, loyalty to the party, and deep understanding of grassroots politics.

“Orebiyi has demonstrated capacity and commitment over the years. His experience in governance and close working relationship with party leaders make him a suitable candidate to represent Yewa South in the State Assembly,” Ajibola said.

In their remarks, the Special Adviser on Government House Affairs to Governor Abiodun, Babatunde Olaotan; Chief (Mrs) Iyabo Apampa; and former federal lawmaker, Kola Lawal, noted that the consensus move was in line with the party’s internal mechanisms for conflict resolution and strengthening democratic ideals within its fold.

Olaotan added that, “The choice of Orebiyi as the consensus candidate for the Yewa South Assembly seat fits into the party’s interest in continuing to prioritise unity and cohesion among its members.

“The party leaders and stakeholders are confident that Orebiyi’s candidacy will galvanise support across wards and position the party for a resounding victory in 2027.”

In his acceptance remarks, Orebiyi expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify their trust through effective and people-oriented representation.

“I am deeply honoured by this consensus decision. It is a call to greater service, and I assure our leaders and the good people of Yewa South that I will not disappoint. Together, we will work towards sustainable development and improved welfare for our people,” he said.

Orebiyi also called on other aspirants and party members to close ranks and work collectively for the success of the APC in the constituency and across the state.

The consensus arrangement is expected to ease tensions ahead of the primaries and strengthen the party’s chances as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
