Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued four kidnapped children and reunited them with their families after a swift intervention at the Alafia Bus Terminal in the Coker-Orile area of the state.

The rescue operation, which took place on Thursday night, followed the vigilance of a police patrol team conducting routine surveillance around the terminal.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the officers, at about 11:40 p.m. on May 8, 2026, noticed four children in the company of an unidentified woman who was attempting to board a luxury bus leaving Lagos State.

The suspect reportedly abandoned the children and fled upon sighting the patrol team.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the children had earlier been kidnapped from the Ijesha-Tedo area of Lagos and were being moved out of the state under the cover of darkness before the police intervention thwarted the plan.

The children were immediately taken into protective custody while efforts were launched to identify and contact their families. The victims have since been reunited with their parents.

The Police Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover other individuals connected to the alleged child trafficking operation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the alertness and professionalism of the patrol officers involved in the operation.

He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, particularly vulnerable groups such as children.

The police boss also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about the safety and whereabouts of their children and to promptly report suspicious activities or movements involving minors to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.

The statement was issued by the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi on Sunday
