Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday arrived in Akure, Ondo State, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 100th birthday celebration of elder statesman, Chief (Dr.) Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti.

This was disclosed in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), who confirmed that Shettima landed at the Akure Airport for the centenary celebration.

The statement noted that Fasoranti’s life remains significant in Nigeria’s political history, describing him as a long-time associate of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and one of the last surviving members of the Awoist political tradition. It added that he was active in the defunct Action Group in the First Republic and the Unity Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic, where he served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State.

Nkwocha also said the Vice President’s presence was to convey the Federal Government’s goodwill to a prominent figure in Nigeria’s socio-political development.

Shettima was received at the airport by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, alongside other top political leaders.

Ahead of the visit, security agencies had already tightened arrangements across key locations in Akure.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed it had put in place a “watertight security arrangement” to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration, aimed at preventing any security breach during the event.
