The Rivers State Police Command has introduced restrictions on tricycle (Keke) operations in parts of Port Harcourt following a rise in activities of the notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate.

The directive was announced on Monday, May 11, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, as part of new security measures aimed at tackling street crimes targeting commuters.

According to the command, intelligence reports connected several robbery and kidnapping incidents to criminal suspects using tricycles along major routes within the city.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the restrictions became necessary to protect residents and improve security within the transport system.

“We have recorded alarming incidents where criminals pose as tricycle operators to rob unsuspecting passengers. The restriction is aimed at helping security agencies identify and flush out these criminal elements while protecting lives and property,” she said.

She further disclosed that joint police patrol teams have been deployed across Port Harcourt to ensure compliance and prevent harassment of legitimate operators.

The command also advised residents to remain alert, avoid boarding suspicious or unregistered tricycles, and report any unusual activity to security agencies immediately.
