2027: AISHA YESUFU SAYS SHE IS NOT ABANDONING ADVOCACY, BUT MOVING IT INTO POLITICS

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has stated that she is not abandoning advocacy but rather moving it into active political participation.
Yesufu made this known on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, where she discussed her decision to join partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She also referenced her recent political realignment, noting her departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and alignment with Peter Obi in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I must say that we are all politicians. I really decided to become partisan by joining a political party,” she said.
“For me, the key point is that I am not leaving advocacy. I am taking advocacy into politics. Some may say it is just semantics, but I have consistently kept my word for over a decade in the public space.
“When I decided to start making demands and advocating, I have remained consistent through three administrations. I think it is unfair that activists are often singled out. Activists have also served in government and performed well,” she added.
