The Federal Government has begun the payment of approved outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries abroad.

This was contained in a statement released on Wednesday via X by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

According to the statement, the Central Bank of Nigeria has successfully transferred the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions abroad for prompt disbursement to eligible scholars.

The Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, explained that the payment represents 50 per cent of the total approved outstanding obligations for 2025, while arrangements are ongoing to settle the remaining balance.

He added that the funds have already been credited to relevant embassy accounts, and affected missions are expected to commence immediate payment to beneficiaries, advising scholars to check their accounts for updates.

The BEA programme enables Nigerian students to study in partner countries with financial support from the Federal Government.

Although the scheme has been discontinued, existing beneficiaries have continued to express concerns over delays in the payment of their allowances.

The latest release is aimed at easing financial pressure on the affected scholars.

Alausa further noted that the development reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare and academic success of Nigerian students abroad under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its dedication to meeting legitimate obligations to Nigerian scholars while sustaining policies that promote quality education, student welfare, and national human capital development.
