A senior chief in the Olubadan-in-Council and renowned journalist, Chief Lekan Alabi, is dead.
Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, died on Saturday morning in Lagos at the age of 76.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Adeola Oloko.
Family sources disclosed that the late journalist will be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Widely regarded as one of Oyo State’s most respected media professionals, Alabi built a distinguished career spanning several decades in journalism, public communication and media management.
He served as Press Secretary to successive military and civilian governors in Oyo State, playing a key role in shaping government communication during critical periods in the state’s political history.
His contributions to public affairs and institutional communication earned him widespread respect among journalists, public officials and media practitioners across the country.
Beyond journalism, Alabi was an accomplished author, public affairs commentator and traditional title holder whose influence extended into community leadership and cultural preservation in Ibadanland.
As Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, he was a prominent member of the Olubadan-in-Council, contributing to the traditional institution and the development of Ibadan.
Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues, associates and admirers, who described him as a consummate professional, an intellectual and a dedicated public servant whose career was marked by integrity, excellence and a commitment to effective public communication.
His passing marks the end of an era in Oyo State’s media landscape, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, mentorship and distinguished service to journalism, government and traditional leadership.
