Chidozie Anyanwu, an Imo state resident on Monday attempted to commit suicide due to his poor standard of living.
Anyanwu, who was seen lying on MCC/Uratta Road, Owerri, said he was ready to die if his condition does not change for the better.
PUNCH reports that the man said that his motherā€™s corpse has been in the mortuary for quite some time because he has no money to bury her.
ā€œMy wife is a civil servant and her salary does not come as and when due. And when it comes, the bank collects all and still debits her account because of a loan she took. The provision shop she opened with the loan is not growing because Imo people donā€™t have money. People, who used to patronise the shop, are no longer coming and when she calls them, they always say there is no money,ā€ he said.
He added that for the past three months, nobody patronised his shop and his three children only ate once a day.
He later left the road after some passers-by persuaded him not to take his life.
