Motorists experienced severe traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday following a lone accident around the Kara Bridge area, which disrupted vehicular movement and prompted emergency recovery operations.

The incident temporarily halted traffic along the affected section of the highway as emergency responders worked to remove the obstruction and restore the free flow of vehicles.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in an update shared on its official X handle, confirmed that recovery operations were ongoing, leading to significant traffic delays.

According to the agency, vehicular movement was temporarily suspended to allow recovery teams to safely clear the accident scene.

“The traffic backlog has stretched to New Garage and beyond, causing delays for motorists travelling towards Ogun State,” LASTMA stated.

The accident resulted in a long queue of vehicles on both the Lagos-bound and Ogun-bound sections of the expressway, with commuters facing extended travel times.

However, LASTMA noted that motorists travelling from Mowe-Ibafo towards Lagos were not experiencing major delays, as traffic in that direction remained largely free-flowing.

The agency urged road users to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials managing the situation while the recovery operation continued.

In a separate update, LASTMA confirmed that a fallen containerised truck previously obstructing traffic at Cater Bridge had been successfully evacuated, restoring normal traffic flow in the area.

Authorities also advised motorists to drive cautiously, obey traffic regulations, and remain vigilant while using major highways, especially during emergency response and recovery operations.
