Dr. Akim Adebola Yusuf, a former governorship candidate under the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2023 elections, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-In-Council and the entire people of Ibadanland over the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a condolence letter dated July 7, 2025, addressed to the Igbimo Agba (Olubadan-In-Council), Dr. Yusuf described the monarch’s passing as a great loss to Ibadanland, noting that Oba Olakulehin’s life and reign exemplified dignity, tradition, and leadership.

“My family and I commiserate with the Igbimo Agba, and by extension, the entire indigenes and residents of Ibadanland on the passage of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin,” the letter reads. “May God Almighty grant Kabiyesi graceful admission by his ancestors, amen.”

In the same message, Dr. Yusuf extended his congratulations to the former governor of Oyo State, High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who is widely expected to ascend the throne as the 44th Olubadan.

“I congratulate His Excellency, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on his intending ascension to the exalted throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Dr. Yusuf stated. “May his reign bring further development and peace to Ibadanland.”

Dr. Yusuf, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a member of the National Institute (mni), is a well-respected political and economic figure in Oyo State. His tribute adds to the chorus of condolences and goodwill messages pouring in from political, cultural, and traditional leaders across Nigeria as Ibadan prepares for the formal transition of leadership within its revered traditional institution.
