AKWA IBOM POLICE NAB SUSPECTS OVER ALLEGED THEFT OF N2M BLOCK MOULDING MACHINE, VANDALISM

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals in separate operations for alleged theft and vandalism, recovering stolen equipment and other exhibits.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said detectives arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Etim, for allegedly stealing an industrial block moulding machine vibrator valued at over ₦2 million.
According to the statement, the machine was stolen from the Ikot Ekpene International Market project site along the Calabar–Itu Road. Acting on a report, police launched a coordinated investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest while he was allegedly attempting to sell the stolen equipment.
The police confirmed that the machine has been recovered, while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the suspected gang who remain at large.
In a separate operation, officers arrested a 46-year-old man, Nsidibe Benson, for allegedly vandalising facilities at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
The suspect was apprehended on July 19, 2026, after police responded to a distress call from a vigilant resident. Preliminary investigations revealed that Benson allegedly specialised in stealing aluminium window frames, louvres, electrical wires and cables from public buildings.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect include cut-to-size aluminium window frames and electrical cables. Police said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest his alleged accomplices.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended residents for providing timely and credible information that aided the operations.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure, safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring that criminal elements are arrested and prosecuted. The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with useful information on suspicious activities.
