ANAMBRA FIRE DESTROYS DUPLEX, SHUTTLE BUS, PROPERTY

A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of a residential duplex near Mopol Base Junction, along the Old Amansea-Awka Road in Anambra State.
The blaze, which started in one of the apartments at about 6:00pm on Saturday, spread to adjoining sections of the building before engulfing a shuttle bus parked within the compound.
The fire also damaged roofing materials, household furniture, sections of the walls and other parts of the building, with losses estimated at several millions of naira.
The Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
Chiketa said the Fire Service received a distress call at about 6:30pm and immediately deployed personnel and firefighting equipment to the scene.
He said the firefighters successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.
“Fortunately, no life was lost and no injury was recorded,” Chiketa said.
He added that the fire was eventually extinguished, while the scene was secured before firefighters withdrew at about 7:30pm.
Chiketa urged members of the public to report emergencies promptly, stressing that early intervention could help prevent fire incidents from causing greater damage to lives and property.
