Rivers United players and officials have received cash bonuses following the club’s impressive start to the 2026/27 season.

The Pride of Rivers were rewarded with ₦2 million after defeating Plateau United 2-0 in their opening Nigeria Premier Football League fixture.

Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Chris Green, awarded the team ₦1 million for each goal scored in the victory.

The club also received a $2,000 bonus for holding FC San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary-round tie.

Rivers United commended the players and officials for their performances and for representing Rivers State and Nigeria in both domestic and continental competitions.

The incentives are aimed at motivating the squad as they continue to compete on both fronts.

Rivers United will next face FC San Pedro in the return leg in Ikenne, with a place in the second preliminary round at stake.
