The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital.

The arrest was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga said the arrest followed sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down suspected criminals involved in motorcycle-enabled robberies and related offences across the state.

According to the statement, police operatives recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities during the operation.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full extent of his alleged involvement and identify other accomplices,” the statement added.

The command said further developments would be communicated as weekend patrol operations commenced.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that suspected perpetrators of criminal activities were brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Ama urged members of the public, particularly POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
