The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the state Police Command for foiling an alleged assassination attempt on the Director-General of its Governorship Campaign Council, Wole Oke.

The commendation followed the police’s announcement on Thursday of the arrest of three suspects over the alleged plot to assassinate Oke in Ipetu-Ijesa.

The suspects identified by the police are disc jockey Olalekan Oriyomi, Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31. Police also disclosed that an English Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered from one of the suspects.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, the APC praised the police for what it described as a proactive effort to rid the state of criminal elements.

The party said the alleged attack, if successful, could have plunged the state into mourning, while expressing confidence that the police would carry out a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute everyone connected to the alleged assassination plot.

“Had the suspected assassins succeeded, the state would have been thrown into another period of mourning. We have absolute confidence that the police will conduct a comprehensive investigation with a view to exposing, arresting and prosecuting everyone directly or indirectly linked to the crime,” the statement said.

The APC also questioned whether political violence should be tolerated in pursuit of electoral victory, alleging that the people of the state had rejected the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke over its performance.

The party further expressed disappointment that Governor Adeleke and the chairman of the ruling Accord Party in the state, Victor Akande, had yet to publicly condemn the alleged assassination attempt several days after the incident.

While reiterating its support for the police, the APC urged security agencies to intensify efforts to eliminate political violence and investigate individuals allegedly mentioned by the suspects during interrogation.

The party also encouraged its members to continue campaigning peacefully for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, expressing confidence in his chances of victory.
