Arsenal came from behind to defeat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, with substitute Bruno Guimaraes scoring the decisive goal in their Premier League encounter.
Leeds took the lead in the 56th minute through James Justin before Riccardo Calafiori equalised for the hosts five minutes later.
Guimaraes, introduced by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, struck in the 69th minute to complete the comeback and secure the victory.
According to a match report published on Arsenal’s official website, Leeds threatened in the first half, but goalkeeper David Raya made important saves to keep the visitors from taking the lead before the break.
Arsenal created an opportunity shortly after the restart when Noni Madueke set up Martin Odegaard, whose low effort was saved by Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford.
Leeds eventually broke the deadlock when Gabriel Gudmundsson advanced down the left flank and delivered a low cross into the penalty area. The ball found Justin, whose first-time effort beat Raya despite Gabriel’s attempt to clear it off the line.
Arsenal responded five minutes later when Madueke delivered the ball into the box and Ben White headed it across goal for Calafiori, who fired past Trafford to restore parity.
Arteta subsequently introduced Guimaraes, Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber as Arsenal sought the winning goal.
The decisive moment came after a passing move involving Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice. Rice’s backheel released Guimaraes on the edge of the area, allowing the substitute to place his shot into the bottom corner.
Arsenal had further opportunities to extend their advantage, but Trafford denied Saka in a one-on-one situation in the closing seconds.
The victory gave Arsenal five wins from their opening six matches in their Premier League title defence, according to the club’s report.
Arsenal will next host Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday before travelling to Nottingham Forest the following Sunday. The club’s fixture list also includes a match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, October 21.
