ATIKU CLAIMS TRUMP BACKS HIS PLAN TO RESTORE FUEL SUBSIDY

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar claimed on Sunday that United States President Donald Trump supports his plan to restore fuel subsidies in Nigeria.

Atiku has promised to reinstate the subsidy if elected president in 2027. The assertion was contained in a statement released by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, under the title “Atiku boasts of stakeholders, Trump support on fuel subsidy.”

In the statement, Atiku described his proposed “Production Subsidy” as a means of returning money to citizens’ pockets by supporting local production and refining, boosting supply, monitoring prices, and ensuring Nigerians benefit at the pump.

He noted that the Crude Oil Refiners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) advocates support for domestic production and argued that the United States recognises the value of backing strategic energy output.

Atiku further criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of opposing relief measures for ordinary Nigerians while readily offering waivers, incentives and concessions to multinational oil companies and businesses linked to the government. He questioned why such interventions are labelled bad economics only when they are intended to help average citizens.
