Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.

Fubara disclosed this in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, saying the decision followed deep reflection and consultations with family members, friends and political associates.

According to him, the move was difficult but necessary, and he reaffirmed his commitment to the party and its electoral process.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” he said.

The governor added that he would fully support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate for the governorship election.

“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara stated.

His withdrawal comes amid heightened political realignments within the APC ahead of the next general election cycle.
