A joyous wedding celebration turned tragic in the quiet village of Goult, southeastern France, after gunmen opened fire on a wedding party early Sunday, killing a 27-year-old bride and injuring three others, including the groom and a 13-year-old child.

The fatal shooting occurred around 4:30 a.m. as the newlyweds were leaving the reception. The bride was fatally shot, while her 25-year-old husband and two others sustained injuries. One of the attackers also died at the scene under unclear circumstances.

French authorities have taken two suspects, aged between 20 and 30, into custody. A third attacker remains at large. Dozens of police officers and a helicopter have been deployed in the ongoing manhunt.

Prosecutors have launched an investigation into murder and attempted murder by an organized gang. Early findings suggest the attack may be connected to drug-related score-settling. One of the sources revealed that the groom has previous run-ins with police involving drug and organized crime offenses.

The attackers reportedly arrived by car and were armed with multiple weapons. It remains unclear whether the deceased assailant was fatally shot or struck by the couple’s vehicle as they attempted to escape. Avignon prosecutor Florence Galtier noted that an exchange of fire occurred, but withheld further details.

Autopsies of the victims are scheduled for later this week as investigators work to piece together the motive and full circumstances of the attack. The incident has stunned residents of Goult, a normally peaceful village known for its idyllic scenery.
