RIVERS COURT HALTS FUBARA’S IMPEACHMENT
HOTJIST NEWS The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and two others, including the House Clerk, are prohibited from sending any correspondence to the state's Chief Judge by an interim injunction issued by a Rivers State High Court on Friday in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Port Harcourt. In order to form a panel to look into the alleged misconduct against the state governor and his deputy, the court also prohibited Rivers State Chief Judge Justice Simeon Amadi from receiving, forwarding, considering, or taking any action on any request, resolution, articles of impeachment, or other document from the first to the 27th defendants for a period of seven days. In a decision on a motion ex parte in two distinct suits filed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, the presiding judge, Justice F.A. Fiberesima, also allowed the claimants/applicants to serve the interim order and the originating processes in Suit Nos. OYHC/7CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026, as well as all subsequent processes intended for the first through 31st defendants at the Rivers State Assembly quarters. The court further ordered that the Chief Judge of the state, the 32nd defendant, be served with the interim order and the originating procedures in the lawsuits by any member of the judiciary at the Chief Judge's chambers on the High Court grounds.
