Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has recounted how music star David Adeleke, aka Davido, unexpectedly reached out to him and signed him after two weeks of silence.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Mayorkun disclosed that he had resigned from his banking job after Davido promised to sign him, following his discovery of a video of the singer performing online.
However, Mayorkun said Davido stopped communicating with him for two weeks, leaving him worried and uncertain about his music career after abandoning his banking job.
According to the singer, the prolonged silence prompted him to seek divine intervention, leading him to start attending church and trusting God to change his situation.
Mayorkun recalled that in a remarkable turn of events, Davido sent him a WhatsApp message immediately after he led a praise and worship session in church, instructing him to pack his belongings and move into his house.
Recounting the experience, he said he had not even returned to his seat after the worship session when the message arrived.
“Davido stopped replying to me for two weeks after I quit my banking job. I started going to church, and one day, immediately after singing praise and worship, he texted me on WhatsApp to pack my luggage and come to his house. It was more than a testimony,” he said.
He added that he had been in a state of panic before the message arrived because he was unsure whether Davido would contact him again.
Mayorkun described the experience as a testimony, highlighting how the unexpected message came at a time when he was deeply worried about his future.
