Award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has denied reports claiming that she was appointed a Visiting Professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by her Communications Team and signed by Omawumi Ogbe, the reports circulating across several media platforms were described as false, misleading and entirely inaccurate.

The statement clarified that Adichie has neither received such an appointment nor held any discussions with the university regarding a professorial position, dismissing claims that official appointment letters were signed and dated December 18, 2025.

“Ms. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has not received any such appointment, nor has she been in communication with the University regarding a professorship,” the statement said.

While acknowledging Adichie’s deep personal connection to UNN where she grew up and where her parents previously served as Professor and Registrar the communications team expressed disappointment that such claims were published without verification.

The statement noted that although the institution holds a special place in Adichie’s life, it was unfortunate that a significant announcement of this nature was circulated without confirmation from the author or her representatives.

The public and media organisations were urged to disregard the reports and take down any publications carrying the claim in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.

“We urge the public and the media to disregard these false reports and request that all outlets currently carrying the story take it down immediately,” the statement added.
