COAS COMMENDS TROOPS’ RESILIENCE IN FIGHT AGAINST IPOB/ESN IN SOUTH-EAST

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of Operation UDO KA for their resilience and sustained offensive operations against criminal elements of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the South-East.
In a post on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Saturday, the COAS, represented by the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, spoke at the COAS Special Sallah Luncheon held at Mother Valley in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, where he lauded the troops for their courage and commitment despite persistent threats.
Shaibu said, “The resilience, gallantry, and unwavering commitment you have demonstrated in this theatre are highly commendable.
“Your sustained offensive operations have continued to degrade the capabilities of criminal elements and restore confidence among the people.”
He noted that the troops’ recent successes in clearing entrenched hideouts and dismantling insurgent networks underscore the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness.
“Despite the dangers posed by improvised explosive devices and other threats, you have remained focused and effective. This clearly demonstrates the combat readiness and dominance of our forces in the region,” he added.

Reaffirming the Army’s mandate, the COAS stressed that the force remains committed to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of citizens.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to uphold discipline, professionalism, and a clear mission focus, remaining resolute in its constitutional duty to defend the nation and protect lives and property,” he said.
The COAS also commended the General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, for fostering synergy among security agencies and local communities.
“Your leadership has strengthened collaboration with sister services and host communities, thereby enhancing intelligence-led operations and contributing significantly to the gains we are witnessing,” he said.
Addressing wounded personnel, he reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to their welfare under its “Soldier First” philosophy.
“To our wounded personnel, your sacrifices will never be forgotten. The Nigerian Army remains committed to your welfare, recovery and overall well-being,” he assured.
He also urged residents of the South-East to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible information.
“We urge members of the public to sustain their cooperation with security agencies. Timely and reliable information remains critical in consolidating our gains and achieving lasting peace in the region,” he added.
The event highlighted ongoing military efforts to stabilise the South-East, strengthening security through sustained operations and enhanced collaboration with local communities.
