Dutch police have reportedly disrupted a Nigerian wedding celebration in the Netherlands over complaints of excessive noise, forcing guests to leave the event hall.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, reportedly saw police officers enter the decorated wedding venue and order the music to be stopped before directing guests to leave.
A video of the incident circulating on social media showed guests dressed in colourful Nigerian traditional and formal outfits being escorted out of the hall while some appeared visibly distressed.
Some attendees were also heard expressing displeasure over the police intervention, with one voice in the background alleging that the treatment was racially motivated.
The incident has since sparked reactions online, with discussions centring on noise regulations, cultural differences and the treatment of Nigerians living abroad.
According to a report by Peoples Gazette, the incident occurred during a Nigerian wedding celebration featuring what appeared to be a lively reception. However, the specific location of the venue and the full circumstances surrounding the police intervention have not been independently established.
In the Netherlands, noise complaints involving events and entertainment venues can be reported to local authorities, while police may intervene when public order or safety is at risk.
As of the time of this report, further details regarding the organisers’ response, whether the wedding had the necessary permissions, and whether the police issued any formal sanctions remain unclear.
