EBONYI GOVERNOR REMOVES WORKS COMMISSIONER

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has removed the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office with immediate effect.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

According to the statement, Nwifuru directed Mbam’s immediate removal from office.

The former commissioner was also directed to hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.

Mbam was further instructed to transfer his responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works.

The statement did not disclose the reason for his removal.

The governor, however, assured residents that his administration remained committed to effective governance and the development of public infrastructure.

The latest development is not the first disciplinary action taken against Mbam by the governor.

In March 2026, Nwifuru indefinitely suspended the Works Commissioner over alleged dereliction of duty, alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara.

The governor later recalled the suspended officials in May, although details surrounding the recall were not immediately clear at the time.

The latest statement did not provide any reason for Mbam’s removal.
