Dan Nwomeh, the Senior Special Assistant on Mainstream Media to Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has questioned who authorised a political gathering at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu following an alleged attack on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Tension reportedly erupted at the airport on Saturday after suspected thugs attacked NDC supporters who had gathered to welcome the party’s governorship candidate.

Reacting to the incident in a post on his official Facebook page, Nwomeh questioned the rationale behind organising a political gathering at an international airport and demanded clarification on who granted the approval.

“Who organises a campaign rally at an airport, of all places?” he asked.

Nwomeh further questioned whether the approval was granted by the police, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), or another relevant authority.

“Who authorised a political party to hold a campaign rally at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu? Was it the police, Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), or some other authority? Who gave the approval?” he queried.

The governor’s aide also questioned whether political actors had independently decided to use the airport as a campaign venue without obtaining the necessary authorisation.

“Or did some political desperados and governorship wannabes simply take the law into their own hands, turning an international airport into a campaign rally ground?” he added.
