A final-year student of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has died in a tragic road accident that occurred during a celebratory motorcade following the completion of his final examinations.

The incident happened on Monday when a convoy of fresh graduates took to the highway shortly after their signing-out activities. Witnesses said the students were driving recklessly and failed to observe basic safety precautions amid the celebrations.

The deceased reportedly lost his life while attempting to overtake a moving truck but collided with a stationary vehicle parked along the road.

Confirming the accident on Tuesday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo State Command, Cyril Mathew, disclosed that one person was confirmed dead, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“The students, after writing their last paper, took to the road in a convoy. In the process, one of them overtook another vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck,” Mathew said.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment as authorities cautioned motorists, especially young celebrants, against dangerous driving.
