FIRE OUTBREAK IN LAGOS SHOPPING CENTRE DESTROYS GOODS WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA (VIDEO)
A shopping plaza in Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, was reduced to ashes, by a fire outbreak, in the early hours of Thursday.
Several videos shared on social media show the fire raging with onlookers appearing helpless.
The fire broke out around 12:05 a.m. on January 1. 2026, beside GUO Transport Company, gutting washing machines, TVs, generators, and other goods in the electronics plaza. Neighbors doused the flames with water until Lagos State Fire anc Rescue Service arrived, containing the fire and preventing wider damage–no casualties reported.
A local resident praised the firefighters for averting disaster, though unverified claims put losses in billions of naira; the cause, possibly a faulty circuit or firecrackers, is under investigation amid a wave of recent market fires in Lagos.
