FOUR POLICE OFFICERS FACE DISCIPLINARY PROBE OVER VIRAL STOP-AND-SEARCH VIDEO

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated disciplinary proceedings against four officers seen in a viral video allegedly engaging in unprofessional conduct and making derogatory ethnic remarks during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

The officers, comprising one Assistant Superintendent of Police and three Inspectors, have been identified and placed in custody pending an orderly room trial, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Ani Iniedu.

The statement added that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, has been directed to conduct a full and transparent investigation to determine each officer’s level of involvement and ensure appropriate sanctions are applied,” the statement read.

The police leadership condemned the officers’ conduct, stressing that it was inconsistent with the values and standards of the Force.

“The conduct shown in the video does not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force. Ethnic profiling and disrespect toward any citizen will not be tolerated, and officers who fall short of the Force’s standards of professionalism and respect will be held accountable,” the statement added.

The force reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and accountability, saying it would continue to promote ethical policing and strengthen public confidence.
