Minister of Works, David Umahi, has responded to socialite Cubana Chief Priest following the latter’s recent criticism of his performance as a minister.
Umahi, who spoke during a recent engagement, criticised what he described as the growing culture of excessive noise-making and public display of wealth, stressing that genuine success should be measured by achievements rather than verbal claims.
The minister questioned the habit of constantly boasting about money, insisting that people should allow their accomplishments to speak for them.
“We have become very noise-making. Every time, money na water. How much do you have? Have you ever seen water that have money? Have you ever seen children that say I have money, or say I have money, or poor?” Umahi said.
He further maintained that wealth does not need to be loudly advertised, urging Nigerians to prioritise meaningful contributions to society over showing off their financial status on social media.
His remarks come about two weeks after Cubana Chief Priest criticised him in an Instagram post, describing him as the second-worst minister the South-East had produced and calling on President Bola Tinubu to remove him from office.
The socialite had also questioned the benefits the South-East had received from having one of its indigenes serve as Minister of Works.
