INFORMATION MINISTER HAILS IBIETAN’S RE-ELECTION AS APRA SECRETARY-GENERAL

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan on his re-election as Secretary-General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), describing the achievement as a testament to his professionalism, dedication and contributions to the advancement of public relations across Africa.
Ibietan secured a second term during the APRA General Assembly held in Swakopmund, Namibia, where Mr. Arik Karani of Kenya was elected President, while Prof. Michele Mekeme of Cameroon emerged as Vice-President.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister said Ibietan’s re-election reflected the confidence public relations professionals across the continent have in his leadership.
“On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, I congratulate Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan on his well-deserved re-election as Secretary-General of APRA. This honour is not only a recognition of his professional excellence but also a source of pride for Nigeria and the entire communications community,” Idris said.
The minister noted that the renewed mandate was a testament to Ibietan’s leadership qualities and his capacity to advance the vision of the continental body.
He expressed confidence that the APRA Secretary-General would continue to provide purposeful leadership and strengthen collaboration among communication professionals across Africa.
“Dr. Ibietan’s re-election reflects the confidence that public relations professionals across Africa have in his leadership and in his capacity to advance the Association’s vision,” the statement added.
Idris also expressed optimism that Ibietan would continue to champion ethical communication and support Africa’s digital transformation agenda through strategic public relations.
He further commended APRA for its sustained commitment to promoting professional excellence, ethical communication and collaboration among public relations practitioners on the continent.
The minister also expressed Nigeria’s readiness to host the 37th APRA Annual Conference alongside the World Public Relations Forum in Abuja later this year.
Founded in 1975, the African Public Relations Association serves as the umbrella body for public relations practitioners across Africa, promoting ethical standards, professional excellence and the strategic role of communication in the continent’s development.
