Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Kano Pillars have appointed Daniel Ogunmodede as the club’s new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 football season.

The Kano-based club announced the appointment in a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday, confirming that Ogunmodede has agreed to a two-year deal.

“We’ve reached an agreement to appoint Daniel Ogunmodede (Ijaball) as our new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 football season. Welcome to Kano, and the Sai Masu Gida family are happy to have you with us!” the club stated.

Popularly known as “Ijaball,” the 46-year-old joins Kano Pillars after a successful spell with Remo Stars, where he spent nearly a decade and rose from assistant coach to head coach.

After taking charge of the Ogun-based side in 2020, Ogunmodede guided Remo Stars to promotion to the NPFL before establishing them as one of the country’s top clubs. Under his leadership, the club recorded successive top-three finishes, qualified for continental competitions and won its maiden NPFL title in the 2024/25 season.

He also serves as an assistant coach of the Super Eagles under head coach Eric Chelle.

Ogunmodede replaces Muhammad Babaganaru, whose contract expired at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Announcing Babaganaru’s departure, Kano Pillars expressed appreciation for his contributions to the club.

“We thank Coach Babaganaru for his dedication, commitment and service throughout his time with Sai Masu Gida. We wish him success and the very best in his future endeavours,” the club said.

In a related development, the Kano State Government has appointed Ahmad Garo as the new Chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club.

Garo, an experienced football administrator, previously served the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as FIFA Connect Manager, U-23 National Team Administrator and Coordinator of the Home-Based Super Eagles.

He also holds FIFA and CAF certifications in Club Management, Sports Management, and Safety and Security.

Following his appointment, Garo pledged to prioritise professionalism, transparency, youth development and financial sustainability, with the goal of positioning Kano Pillars to compete successfully in domestic and continental competitions.
