The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious thug, Abubakar Isma’il, popularly known as ‘Sankolo’, over alleged involvement in kidnapping, phone snatching and other criminal activities in Rimin Kebe and neighbouring communities.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, stating that the 22-year-old suspect was arrested on November 6 at about 9:30 p.m. by operatives of the Zango Police Division.
According to the statement, the arrest followed intelligence gathered after the apprehension of another suspected thug, Umar Usman, popularly known as ‘Ta’ambo’, on November 5.
The police said Sankolo had been on their wanted list over his alleged involvement in thuggery and was also a principal suspect in the abduction of nine-year-old Ubaidu Sammani, son of Alhaji Sammani, who was kidnapped on July 3, 2026.
The Command added that some of his alleged accomplices had already been charged to court, with their trial currently ongoing.
Kiyawa disclosed that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to several incidents of thuggery and mobile phone robbery in Rimin Kebe and surrounding communities.
He added that the suspect had confessed to coordinating attacks, intimidating residents and snatching mobile phones and other valuables.
The police spokesperson said the arrest had been welcomed by residents and community leaders in the affected areas.
He also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers of the Zango Police Division for their professionalism and prompt response.
The Command said the suspect remained in custody as investigations continued, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover stolen property and weapons allegedly used in the criminal activities.
It further stated that Sankolo would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency contact numbers.
