The fatalities of a traffic accident in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, were lamented by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday.

A horrific tragedy on Wednesday claimed the lives of several young Borno State University graduates and maimed numerous more.

In a condolence statement, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s spokesperson, expressed regret that a moment of joy and accomplishment that ought to have been a major turning point in the lives of these young kids had devolved into an unthinkable tragedy.

“The loss of these bright, young lives is not just a loss for their families but a loss for Borno State and our nation,” he said.

“These graduates embodied hope, promise, and aspirations of a brighter future. Their untimely departure leaves an irreplaceable void.”

The vice president also assured the students’ families of the government’s support, pledging that President Bola Tinubu’s administration “cannot let such incidents continue to rob us of our brightest and best.
