The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of bitterness over President Bola Tinubu’s emergence as president, alleging that the ADC presidential candidate is struggling to accept his political defeat.

Keyamo made the remarks in a post on his official X handle on Friday, where he accused Atiku of becoming increasingly resentful because Tinubu eventually secured the presidency.

The minister’s comments followed Atiku’s criticism of the Federal Government’s announcement of a 30-day petrol price discount.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, had earlier announced that the Federal Government would provide a discount on petrol sold by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for 30 days.

Reacting to Atiku’s criticism, Keyamo argued that the former vice-president was unhappy that Tinubu became president on his first attempt, despite Atiku’s several years of pursuing the position.

He noted that both politicians had spent decades in public service, recalling that Atiku was vice-president while Tinubu served as governor of Lagos State.

According to Keyamo, Atiku was once considered higher in the political hierarchy, but Tinubu eventually rose to become president.

The minister further urged Atiku’s associates to encourage him to seek professional mental health support rather than support what he described as his recent outbursts against the President.

Keyamo claimed that Atiku’s conduct could alienate his remaining supporters and further weaken his political standing.

“What we are witnessing with all his recent tantrums against Mr President, veiled as opposition heroics, is actually a higher form of depression in the field of mental health called agitated depression,” he said.

“It is now very obvious that Atiku Abubakar is a pained and very bitter fellow. The pain and bitterness stems from the fact that he feels President Bola Ahmed Tinubu finally outsmarted him politically to get the most coveted position of President and he can’t mentally deal with this fact,” Keyamo added.
