Ademola Lookman was on target as Atletico Madrid secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Sevilla in their LaLiga encounter on Saturday.
Atletico Madrid made a strong start to the match, taking the lead in the fourth minute through Alex Baena, who converted a pass from Kang-In Lee to put the visitors ahead early.
Lookman extended Atletico’s advantage in the 26th minute when he found space inside the box before calmly placing Pablo Barrios’ pass into the bottom-left corner.
The goal capped a lively performance from the Nigerian forward, who consistently troubled the Sevilla defence with his movement and attacking threat. Lookman had earlier come close to scoring when his effort from outside the penalty area was blocked.
Baena added his second of the game in the 33rd minute, producing a fine finish from the edge of the penalty area to put Atletico 3-0 ahead before the break.
Sevilla improved after half-time and eventually reduced the deficit in the 66th minute when Miguel Sierra reacted quickest to a rebound inside the box.
Lookman was substituted moments later, with Atletico manager Diego Simeone sending on Arnau Ortiz as the visitors adjusted their attacking setup.
Lookman thought he had doubled his tally shortly after the restart, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The Nigerian forward continued to threaten the Sevilla defence, with another attempt from the edge of the box blocked before he was substituted.
Sevilla struggled to create further opportunities as Atletico Madrid took control of the closing stages, holding on to secure a comfortable 3-1 away victory and claim all three points.
