LAGOS ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF EKO BRIDGE ON TUESDAY FOR REPAIRS, SAFETY INVESTIGATIONS

The Lagos State Government has declared an emergency closure of Eko Bridge, heading towards Lagos Island, for safety–related inspections and repairs.
The closure is set to begin on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, as stated by the state commissioner for transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement released on Sunday.
Osiyemi mentioned that the affected area spans the section between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa.
He also noted that the inward carriageway from Lagos Island will remain accessible to drivers.
“In view of the closure between Apongbon and IjoraOlopa, members of the motoring public are advised to use the Third Mainland Bridge to access their desired destinations.
“The inward Lagos Island carriageway will remain open to motorists. Adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow,” the statement read.
