The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has announced plans to conduct a controlled demolition of structurally compromised buildings located near the site of the recent collapse at Alakija Bus Stop.

The agency said the decision was taken as search, rescue and recovery efforts continue at the incident scene in Satellite Town, within the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.

According to LASEMA, a joint structural integrity assessment carried out by the agency, the Lagos State Building Control Agency and other emergency response organisations found the neighbouring buildings to be unsafe.

The agency warned that the affected structures pose significant dangers to rescue personnel, residents in the vicinity and the wider public.

To minimise the risk of further incidents, LASEMA said the demolition exercise would be carefully supervised by the relevant authorities to prevent any secondary collapse.

Residents and members of the public have been advised to avoid the area while the operation is underway.

The agency also called on motorists and residents to adhere strictly to all traffic and safety instructions issued by emergency officials during the exercise.

LASEMA thanked residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation, stressing that every action being taken is intended to protect lives and property.

It added that additional updates would be provided as the controlled demolition and related operations progress.
