MANY FEARED KILLED IN FRESH BENUE ATTACK

Agency report
An unspecified number of people have reportedly been killed by gunmen suspected to be armed herders in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Yelewata, located near the border between Nasarawa and Benue States, is less than a 40-minute drive from Makurdi, the state capital.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident but could not provide an exact casualty figure, stating that several individuals, including some of the attackers, lost their lives.
According to a local resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, the assailants believed to be armed herders stormed the community around 10 p.m. on Friday and continued their attack into the early hours of Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) stated that the command remains committed to pursuing the attackers and reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety of residents in Benue State.
Despite a visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, aimed at addressing the surge in suspected armed herders’ attacks, the violence has continued unabated.
Just two days ago, on Thursday, suspected armed herders launched attacks on Mtswenem and Akondotyough Bawa communities in Makurdi Local Government Area, killing no fewer than 25 people.
