France captain Kylian Mbappé scored his seventh goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to help secure his country’s place in the quarter-finals.

Mbappé converted a second-half penalty with composure in a closely contested and physical encounter against Paraguay.

The Real Madrid forward now leads the tournament’s scoring charts ahead of Lionel Messi, thanks to his two assists, while Messi is yet to register an assist in the competition.

Messi will have another opportunity to add to his tally when Argentina take on Egypt in the Round of 16.

Trailing Mbappé and Messi in the race for the Golden Boot are Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, who have each scored five goals so far.

England will face co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16, while Norway are set to take on Brazil for a place in the quarter-finals.
