MultiChoice has discontinued its Africa Magic Family channel after 12 years, replacing it with a new entertainment station, Africa Magic+, as part of changes to its DStv offerings.
The development was announced on Thursday through Africa Magic’s official Instagram page, which described the closure as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
In its announcement, the channel bade farewell to viewers with the message, “Goodbye, Africa Magic Family,” adding that its closure would usher in a new offering.
“One chapter closes, but the story is far from over.
“Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way,” the post read.
The channel also urged viewers to look forward to its replacement, promising more variety on Africa Magic+.
“More stories, more drama, more variety. Expect more on Africa Magic+ from November 5, 6AM WAT,” it added.

The announcement marked the end of Africa Magic Family’s 12-year run on DStv, where it was known for broadcasting family-friendly Nollywood films, Nigerian drama series and other African entertainment programmes.
The channel had built a following among viewers interested in locally produced movies and television dramas, particularly Nigerian stories.

Its replacement, Africa Magic+, is expected to offer a broader mix of entertainment content.
The change comes amid a wider restructuring of DStv’s channel line-up and subscription packages, which took effect on November 5, 2026.
The replacement forms part of MultiChoice’s efforts to refresh its programming and expand the range of content available to viewers.
