The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has assured students of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) that concerns over the delay in the payment of their NELFUND upkeep allowances are being addressed as a matter of urgency.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said the association had formally escalated the issue to the leadership of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) following complaints from students who said they had not received their upkeep allowances since January.

According to him, NELFUND has assured the association that steps are being taken to resolve the payment delay as quickly as possible.

Akinteye urged affected students to remain patient while the payment process is being finalised, assuring them that NANS would continue engaging relevant authorities until all genuine concerns are resolved and eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements.

“The welfare of Nigerian students remains our priority, and we will not relent in ensuring that their rights and interests are protected,” he said.

He reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to championing the welfare of students across the country and ensuring their concerns receive the attention they deserve.
