Tension has engulfed Ugya community in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State following allegations that the principal of Junior Secondary School, Ugya, assaulted a JSS 2 student and that the student’s father was taken to a police station after confronting the school head over the incident.

A resident, Huzaifa Yusuf, who brought the incident to light, alleged that the principal beat the student for refusing to participate in manual labour after school hours.

According to Yusuf, the student’s father later visited the school to express his displeasure over what he considered excessive punishment and warned the principal against subjecting his child to such treatment.

However, the father was reportedly taken to a police station following the confrontation.

The incident has raised concerns among residents, who have urged the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to investigate the allegations, determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and ensure that justice is served.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the school authorities, the police nor the state Ministry of Education had issued an official statement on the incident.
