NIMET FORECASTS WIDESPREAD RAIN, THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NIGERIA FROM MONDAY TO WEDNESDAY

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday, warning the public to take precautionary measures against potential weather hazards.

In a weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said cloudy and rainy conditions would dominate most regions, with thunderstorms likely to occur in northern, central, and southern parts of the country.

According to the agency, patches of cloud and chances of morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba and Adamawa states in the northeast. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall are anticipated in Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba.

In the North-Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms with rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Nasarawa during the afternoon and evening.

The southern region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with morning rains likely over coastal parts of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa. Rain showers are also forecast later in the day in states including Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Ebonyi, Enugu, and others.

NiMet predicts sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern states in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall likely in Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, and Adamawa later in the day.

North-Central states will experience partly cloudy morning conditions, followed by isolated thunderstorms and rainfall in the afternoon or evening in areas including the FCT, Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger.

In the South, morning showers are expected in Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom. By afternoon and evening, rains are likely across Ekiti, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, Lagos, and other states.

For Wednesday, NiMet anticipates morning thunderstorms and rain in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and Gombe. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with rain are expected in Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, and Zamfara.

Cloudy skies are forecast for the North-Central region in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and rain later in the day across the region.

The southern region is expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, with isolated rain showers anticipated in the afternoon and evening across all southern states

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions, warning that strong winds may precede rainfall, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms. It urged residents to fasten loose objects to avoid potential hazards.

The agency also cautioned against driving under heavy rain and recommended unplugging electrical appliances during storms. People are advised to stay away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches.

Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet for safe and efficient flight planning.
