Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, have arrested a 45-year-old man, Mustafa Sani, for alleged involvement in a motorcycle theft syndicate operating in the state.

The suspect was arrested at his residence in Gaida, Abacha Street, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, following credible intelligence linking him to the activities of the syndicate.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the arrest followed the tracking of a motorcycle with registration number GRR 958 QB, registered in Jigawa State, to the suspect’s residence.

It stated that a search of the premises led to the recovery of a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from the premises of a hospital at Rijiyar Zaki, along Gwarzo Road, Kano.

Other items recovered during the operation included 11 registered motorcycle number plates, six screwdrivers, three pliers and three bunches of motorcycle keys, which the Corps said were suspected to be connected to stolen motorcycles.

The statement added that the alleged principal suspect in the syndicate, identified as Mansur Nasir Khalil, popularly known as “S-Guy”, was still at large.

The Corps said it had launched a manhunt for Khalil and was making efforts to apprehend him and bring him to justice.

The Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, commended the operatives for what he described as a vigilant and intelligence-led operation.

Agalama assured residents that the Command would intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in motorcycle theft and other forms of criminality across the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting crime.

The commandant further disclosed that Sani would undergo thorough investigation and, upon its conclusion, be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
