ONE KILLED, 11 ABDUCTED TRAVELLERS RESCUED AFTER BANDITS ATTACK VEHICLE IN ZAMFARA

One person was killed and 11 kidnapped travellers were rescued after suspected bandits attacked a passenger-laden trailer along the Gummi–Sokoto Road in Zamfara State.

The Zamfara State Police Command disclosed that the attack occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday when armed bandits ambushed a trailer transporting vegetables and passengers.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, the command said the assailants opened fire on the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road.

According to the police, one of the passengers, identified as Dan Fati Umar of Gidan Ganja in Bukuyum Local Government Area, was killed during the attack, while another victim sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The statement added that the gunmen abducted an unspecified number of passengers before fleeing the scene.

However, police operatives, working alongside other security personnel, launched a swift rescue operation that led to the successful rescue of 11 kidnapped victims.

“The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured passenger a speedy recovery.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities.

The latest rescue comes amid intensified security operations against banditry and terrorism across Nigeria’s North-West region.

Security agencies have sustained coordinated offensives aimed at dismantling criminal networks and rescuing victims of abduction across the region.
