OSUN ELECTION: AKPABIO, UZODIMMA, OTHERS ARRIVE OSOGBO FOR APC MEGA RALLY

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, alongside other APC governors and party leaders, have arrived in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Among the APC leaders at the rally are Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo; Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo; Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke.
The rally forms part of the party’s final mobilisation efforts for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.
The mega rally is being held on the final day of the official campaign period and is expected to draw APC leaders, supporters, campaign coordinators and party members from the 30 local government areas of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed Thursday, August 13, as the deadline for campaigns after the election date was shifted from August 8 to August 15.
Oyebamiji emerged as the APC governorship candidate following the party’s primary election held in Osogbo. He is challenging the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, alongside candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and other political parties.
The election campaign has been characterised by heightened political tension and reports of violence across the state in recent weeks. The Accord Party has accused the APC of using federal influence to intimidate and suppress opposition parties.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week froze the Osun State Government’s account, days before the election. President Bola Tinubu subsequently intervened and directed the anti-graft agency to unfreeze the account.
